Build it and they will come simply does not work in the blogging world, especially when it comes to getting more traffic to your blog using Pinterest. Unfortunately. In reality, experts suggest bloggers spend at least 2 hours of their time marketing their product and blogs for every one hour they spent creating the content, or writing their blog articles and books.
One can get lost in the sea of SEO tactics and guest posting, from commenting on other blogs to twitter chats; there simply aren’t enough hours in the day for these tactics to drive traffic to your website. This is why I highly suggest my favorite source for driving traffic: Pinterest.
It’s not your mother’s social media website anymore. Pinterest is a search engine, with its own algorithms and need for keyword research. Done correctly, Pinterest can propel any startup blogger into the big leagues. Pair the power of Pinterest with the automation of Tailwind and you are really cooking with peanut oil!

Why is Pinterest so great? And why should you, and your business, be on Pinterest? First, just looking at the sheer numbers, there are 175 million people on Pinterest around the globe according to Pinterest. 80% of their users are female; however, 40% of new users are male. Lastly, according to Omnicore Agency, a digital marketing agency, Millennials are on Pinterest as much as Instagram.
Simply put, Pinterest is a powerhouse in driving traffic to any blog regardless of your target demographic. Now the question becomes how to get traffic from Pinterest to your blog.
Pinterest SEO
Just as Google is a search engine, so too is Pinterest. And just like keyword research is fundamental to ranking on Google, the same steps need to be taken to be found on Pinterest. There are over 50 billion pins on Pinterest, according to Omnicore; people are not going to accidentally come across your pin because their sister’s neighbor shared it. No, you will need to do the legwork upfront in the form of keyword research in order for your pins to be found by your ideal customer. The good news is this means once you do the work up front, your pin can be found over and over again, for as long as you have it live on Pinterest.
Finding the right keywords that your target audience is looking for is the key to success on Pinterest; learn this and you will have success in driving traffic back to your website. Optimization through keywords is the key to being found in the vast sea of content creators and pinners.

How to get more traffic to your blog using Pinterest
There are three key areas you will want to use high target keywords to boost your visibility on Pinterest.
1. Profile
First is your profile; don’t just put your name, also include your area of expertise or topic. As you can see from my profile here:
I have my business name and then include top keywords you might use when searching for a digital marketing manager.
2. Boards
The second place your keywords are important is on your board descriptions. Your board titles and descriptions tell Pinterest what the pins are about that you pin there. Don’t miss out on the important opportunity to be found by your next customer.
3. Pins
Lastly, of course, is including keywords in your pin descriptions. Every single pin you have needs to have an optimized description – telling everyone exactly what they will find when they click on your pin and go to your site. This is a key step in the power of the Pinterest search engine and will make or break your attempts to drive traffic to your website using Pinterest.
Maximize your reach
You have a million things on your plate, manual pinning should not be one of them. Using an automation tool like Tailwind can save you time by uploading all your pins at once. The scheduler feature can also allow your business to be pinning throughout the day and night. Tailwind uses its own metrics to determine when your customers are on Pinterest the most often and will suggest key times to deliver your pins to your audience. You can schedule your first 100 pins for free here. Improve engagement with your customers without having to do it in real time.
Automation
Tailwind is the only approved scheduler for Pinterest, using Tailwind is the smartest way to go when automating your pinning routine. Unlike social media websites that require you to be present every single day, multiple times a day, the combination of Pinterest and Tailwind allows you to work on your marketing on your own time and then schedule it to work for you while you move on to more important things in your business.
Don’t risk forgetting to pin during your next product launch. Schedule your promotion efforts to improve efficiency and maximize your reach. Your next customer is out there searching for your topic, will you be found?
Content Creation
As a content creator, whether you are blogger/vlogger/podcaster, creating content consistently will also help increase your traffic. At least twice a month, or even once a week, creating new content on your blog will increase your traffic by creating authority in your subject areas or topics.
As stated at the beginning, for every hour you spend creating content you will also need to spend at least as much time creating marketing for your blog. As you are writing your articles, you can create at least 2-3 pins that you will either embed or hide into your post. Then, using Tailwind you can schedule these pins to drip out to each of your relevant boards over the next few weeks.
This one feature alone is worth the price of upgrading from the free plan on Tailwind. As a business owner, you do not need to spend all your time remembering when and if you have pinned your content and on which boards. Pinterest is too important of a marketing tool to leave your pinning strategy up to whether or not you remember to do it each day.
